*** New Beers ***

Midnight Sun Arctic Devil 2008 22oz:

Folks, this is one of my absolute favorite barley wines. This one is soooooo intense and malty. I would almost call this one an “Old Ale” instead of a “Barley Wine”. Totally malt driven. Malty, rich and smooth with some fruity tones and more alcohol that the flavor lets on.

From the brewery:
Arctic Devil Barley Wine 200813.2 % Alcohol By Volume
20 International Bittering Units (IBUs)
Arctic Devil Barley Wine, aptly named after the ferocious wolverine of the north, is an English-style (meaning malt-inclined) barley wine. Though the recipe and process for Arctic Devil have evolved over the years, it is typically brewed in January then aged in oak barrels for several months before the entire batch is blended, bottled and released on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

In its youth, Arctic Devil gnarls and snarls its way across the palate. Containing this beast of a beer for long periods in oak barrels--some having previously aged port, wine or whiskey--tames the unleashed malt and fierce hop flavors, melding and mellowing this powerful liquid into an incredible elixir worthy of a brewer"s table.

Each annual batch of Arctic Devil Barley Wine represents the brewers" resolve to create an intriguing and sought-after barley wine by precisely brewing to well-designed specifications, carefully selecting the type and combination of barrels to use for aging, and meticulously checking the beer as it ages. Distinct nuance and complexity are contributed by the wood"s previous tenants, resulting in unique flavor profiles in each batch that continue to change over time. We invite you to savor Arctic Devil Barley Wine upon its release then cellar some for future enjoyment.

Russian River Consecration Batch 003X4 750ml:

Batch Marked 003X4

This strong dark ale aged for 6 months inside used cabernet sauvignon barrels with currants added. Rusty brown in color it pours with little head. The aroma is big, sour, and fruity. Classified as a “Wild” ale; the brett notes come through with a touch of that barnyard goodness. The flavor is a mix of berry black current (of course) and hints of cherry and raspberry. I’m so excited to see Russian River’s barrel aged product make it up my way. Stuff like this is obviously limited but I get as much as I can. 10.5%ABV / 1.092 O.G

Midnight Sun Berserker 22oz:

Limit 6 per customer please.

From the Brewery:

12.7 % Alcohol By Volume
30 International Bittering Units (IBUs)

Vicious and viscous, this menacing brew pours opaque black with a creamy maduro-colored head. Its aroma offers seductive whiskey, chewy red wine, dark fruit and lavish tobacco. Berserker Imperial Stout invades your taste buds with in-your-face flavor. Weighing in at almost 13% alcohol by volume, Berserker is completely out-of-control. Give it a good fight.

This version of Berserker Imperial Stout was aged in both red wine and whiskey barrels.

Midnight Sun Melt Down 22oz:

From the brewery:

8.0 % Alcohol By Volume
80 International Bittering Units (IBUs)
The days are long but the season is short. So what gives? Sleep! After doing more before midnight than most Outsiders do in a week, Alaskans deserve some down time. And these moments of relaxation demand more than that ordinary, non-distinct lawn mower beer. Celebrate a day well done with a beer done well—a seriously delicious IPA with some scorchin’ hops.

Hair of the Dog Doggie Claws 2009 12 oz:

As usual, another fine vintage of Doggie Claws. The hop character is very big. With Simcoe hops the flavor is very herbal with citrus notes. Caramel in the malt with a big showing from the wildflower honey he added. It tastes great now and has BIG cellaring potential

MacTarnahans Goose Bump 22oz:

This 9% Imperial stout is jacked up with so much coffee it makes me want to have it with my breakfast of bacon and buttermilk donuts. Yumm.

Boulder Beer Killer Penguin 2009 22 oz:

What bird cannot fly AND cannot walk?? It is any penguin that finishes a bottle of this by himself. The Killer Penguin is a fine, limited release Barley Wine from Boulder Brewing Company. The color is a red / brown tone and pours with a tight head. The aroma is malty with caramel, toffee, and molasses tones. The flavor is caramel with tropical fruity notes and a touch of brown sugar. It has a great package and I think some aging will lower the sweeter tones and bring the fruity esters forward.

Southern Tier Creme Brulee 22oz:

From the brewery:

crème brûlée Imperial Milk Stout

We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew.

Boulevard Nut Cracker 12oz:

This hearty, warming brew is a classic winter ale, deep amber in color, with hints of molasses balanced by the “spiciness” of freshly harvested Chinook hops.

Marin Brewing Hoppy Holidaze 22oz:

Traditional spiced X-mas ale, brewed with Pale, Wheat, Caramalt and Munich malts and hopped with Sterling and Styrian Goldings hop varieties. Spices include Nutmeg, Mace, Cinnamon, Vanilla and Orange Peel.

*** New Beers ***

Goose Island Bourbon County 2009 22oz:

This imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels is big strong and tasty. This inky black stout pours with a dense brown head. The aroma and flavor are huge and maybe a little overwhelming. Notes of sweet chocolate bourbon, figs, prunes, roasted malts with a bit of an alcohol kick.

Full Sail Wreck The Halls 22oz:

This is a totally hop driven winter extravaganza. Deep amber in color, dense voluminous head and a hop aroma to die for. Big piney, hop flavor with just a hint of citrus. I think Sherri said it best when she described it as a Christmas tree in a bottle. This beer is one for the hop-heads.

Marin White Knuckle Double IPA 22oz:

This double IPA pours a deep orange with a nice two finger cap and plenty of lace. The aroma is big on the fruity hops with grapefruit, pineapple and orange with some pine. The flavor is big on the resin hop flavors, a touch of smoke, citrus, and a caramel malt backing. An exceptional DIPA. A very limited supply.

*** Winter Beers and More ***

Ninkasi SleighR 22oz:

This winter offering from Ninkasi is billed as a Double Alt and hits the mark quite well. Brown with red around the edges, the head is thing but laces well. The aroma is malty with brown bread and just a touch of fruity hop. The flavor is malt dominant with toast, nut and a little toffee. The finish has quite a hop to it. Maybe a little more than the style should suggest but there again it is made here in Oregon, we just can’t help ourselves.

Oakshire Ill Tempered Gnome 22oz:

This grumpy winter warmer pours amber brown color and has a tight but thin head. The aroma is nutty with a bit of toffee and just a hint of citrus hop. The flavor is malty up front with caramel and biscuit notes. Some fruitiness mid pallet and a sweetish nutty character through and through.

Mactarnahans Hum Bbugr 12oz:

Black with ruby highlights, this beer pours with two fingers of tan head that quickly fall to a thin layer. The aroma is roasty with some chocolate and a touch of hops. The flavor is easy with light coffee and chocolate tones and a dry finish.

Dogfish Head Burton Baton 12oz:

This 10% oak aged Imperial IPA pours a deep golden orange color. It has a citrusy hop character with oak and floral tones. Plenty of balancing malt up front with a dry floral hop bitterness at the end. It is one more notch on the awesome beer count for Dogfish Head.

De Ranke Pere Noel 750ml:

Cloudy and light orange in color with a big persistent head. Spicy, grassy aroma. Sweet malt flavor with some peppery spiciness. Finishes with a fruity, citricy flavor. It has a great hop profile especially for a Belgian. This is one tasty Belgian beer, well worth the price.

Val-Dieu Winter 750ml 750ml:

This dark brown brew pours with a thin head. The aroma is malty with dark fruits, candy sugar and a hint of chocolate. The flavor is of grapes and figs lightly spicy with a solid malt base. Medium body verging to the start of syrup. Excellent Belgian Winter beer.

Val-Dieu Grand Cru 750ml:

This beer pours an amber brown color with an ample tight head. Its taste and aroma are cake/bready in malt and a plum/pear in fruitiness. Big malt and big fruity esters is what one expects out of a Grand Cru and the Val-Dieu delivers. Not as heavy in body as some grand cru but all the flavor.

I was hoping to get more of The Abyss in today but alas it was all gone. The last order that got filled was 25655. All of the orders after that will be kept on file just in case we see any more (It could happen, ok it would be a minor miracle but it has happened) and you’ll be contacted to see if you want the order reactivated.
